NGHS Prom Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I have to pay Junior Dues?  Ticket
sales pay for half the cost of putting on the Prom, Junior Dues make up the balance.  Any money left after the Prom is used to pay the deposits on next year's Prom.  Think you are paying too much?  Search for "Prom" at other GCPS schools and you'll see NGHS students pay the least to attend the Prom!  Also, know that unlike some of our neighboring schools where Junior Dues are mandatory for all students, NGHS only requires dues of students who want to attend the prom.  A few years ago, the Junior Class sponsor sent a survey to the parents of the Junior Class asking if their family would rather do a fundraiser in lieu of paying Junior Dues.  Overwhelmingly, the parents voted to continue Junior Dues.

I really want to come to the Prom but I can't afford it.  What should I do?  At NGHS, we want everyone to be able to enjoy the Prom.  Contact your guidance counselor ASAP to discuss some options.

I am technically classified as a Sophomore but I earned enough credit for Junior status after Fall Semester and I will graduate at the end of next year.  Can I come to the Prom?  Yes.  Just have your guidance counselor e-mail Mr. Stewart to let him know of your change in status.  Pay your Junior Dues and you are all set to purchase your tickets and come to the Prom!

Do I have to pay more if my date doesn't go to NGHS?  No.

Do I have to pay more if my date is a freshman or sophomore at NGHS? No

Is it OK to come to the Prom solo?  In 2010, 75% of the people who purchased tickets did so with groups of friends instead of a specific date!

Is there a dress code for the Prom?  Yes.  This is a formal event and the attire should reflect the formality of the event.

Will there be chaperones at the Prom?   Absolutely.  There is a very visible adult presence at the Prom.  In 2010, this included the following: 6 uniformed Gwinnett Police Officers, 36 adult chaperones, 9 NGHS administrators, and over 75 NGHS teachers/staff.

Can parents attend the Prom?  It's a community tradition for parents to attend the Senior Walk during Prom.  If you would like to attend the Senior Walk, please arrive no earlier than 9:45pm.  The Senior Walk will begin between 10pm and 10:15 pm.  Business casual attire is requested.

Will food be available at the Prom?  Proof of the Pudding will provide a selection of light hors d'oeuvres and wonderful desserts between 8:30pm and 10:30pm.  Punch, water, and coffee will be available throughout the evening.

What type of entertainment will be at the Prom?  Lee McKeller with Party Time Productions will provide DJ services.  Lee brings an outstanding sound system, laser/light show, and video panels that come together to make for a fantastic atmosphere!

I'm picking my child up after the Prom, what time should I be there?  The prom is over at 11:30pm.  Please arrive no later than 11:30pm.

Does North Gwinnett sponsor any sort of after prom function?  No.  Many families host after-parties for their student but NGHS does not sponsor an after party.

When is next year's Prom?  Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at the Gwinnett Center!
